Wireless carrier EE to launch 5G networks in 16 UK cities in 2019

Wednesday November 14, 2018. 12:00 PM , from Power Page
If you’re over in Europe, this will come in handy.
UK wireless carrier EE announced that it will be launching 5G mobile networks in 16 UK cities in 2019.
The networks will initially launch in London, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Belfast, Birmingham and Manchester, then later be rolled out to Bristol, Coventry, Glasgow, Hull, Leeds, Leicester, Liverpool, Newcastle, Nottingham and Sheffield.

While this is optimistic, the network expansion only covers about 7 percent of total sites and 15 percent of the UK population. Still, per EE representatives, “these sites use 25% of all data across the whole network.”
The company also offered the following details as to the launch:
“Coverage won’t be total: 5G will be offered in the busiest parts of the six launch cites — including Hyde Park in London, Manchester Arena, Belfast City Airport, the Welsh Assembly, Edinburgh Waverley train station and Birmingham’s Bullring. EE said it will also be offering some 5G services in the busiest parts of ten other UK cities — Glasgow, Newcastle, Liverpool, Leeds, Hull, Sheffield, Nottingham, Leicester, Coventry and Bristol.”
Still, if you’re in the UK next year, this should be a much-appreciated speed boost.
Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
