Pegatron cites resolved workforce issues, says order workload won’t be outsourced to Foxconn

Wednesday November 7, 2018. 12:00 PM , from Power Page
Thanks to a quick workforce resolution, it looks like the iPhone XR’s supplies won’t face interruptions.
Pegatron was able to sort out workforce shortages in time for the October launch of the iPhone XR despite rumors that the company is holding onto its share of production for the device.
“The shortages were mostly fixed by the end of September or early October,” said company chairman T.H. Tung. This, in turn, allowed a “major brand client” — thought to be Apple – to launch the handsets in October.

Tung also stated that Pegatron is capable of expanding its workforce in China several times in a two to three-week period to meet major product launches by its clients.
Apple had been rumored as dropping the ratio of Pegatron’s iPhone XR orders to 35 percent or lower and shifting more work to Foxconn. Pegatron was allegedly suffering not just from a lack of workers, but also some vital components.
The iPhone XR handset has been cited as Apple’s 2018 flagship smartphone, and seems more likely to outsell the $999 iPhone XS as well as the $1,099 iPhone XS Max given its $749 price point. The XR also features many of the pricier handsets’ features, although it uses an LCD display as well as an OLED display, a single-lens rear camera, doesn’t incorporate 3D Touch in its design, and has lower peak download speeds.
Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
