OpenAI Codex adds SDK, admin tools, Slack integration
Friday October 10, 2025. 08:08 AM , from InfoWorld
Codex, OpenAI’s AI-powered software engineering agent that can work on tasks in parallel, is now generally available. Since being launched as a research preview in May, Codex has added Slack integration, an SDK, and admin tools.
OpenAI announced general availability of Codex on October 6. Developers can log in to chatgpt.com to try out Codex. Since the research preview, Codex has evolved into a more reliable and capable coding collaborator that can be used in the editor, terminal, and the cloud, all connected by the user’s ChatGPT account, OpenAI said. With the new Slack integration, users can delegate tasks or ask questions to Codex directly from a team Slack channel or thread, the company said. With the Codex SDK, developers can embed the Codex agent into their own workflows, tools, and apps. The SDK is initially available for TypeScript, with more languages to come, OpenAI said. The company also released a GitHub Action to integrate Codex into CI/CD pipelines. With the new admin tools, which include environment controls, monitoring, and analytics dashboards, ChatGPT admins gain more visibility and control to manage Codex at scale, OpenAI said. For example, admins now can edit or delete Codex cloud environments in their workspace, monitor actions taken by Codex, monitor the quality of code reviews by Codex, and track Codex usage across CLI, IDE, and web. The Slack integration and Codex SDK are available to developers on ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, Edu, and Enterprise plans starting October 6. The new admin features will be available to ChatGPT Business, Edu, and Enterprise accounts. Beginning October 20, Codex cloud tasks will begin counting toward Codex usage.
