Teradata partners with Fivetran to assist data centralization in VantageCloud
Friday May 30, 2025. 07:10 PM , from InfoWorld
Teradata has partnered with cloud-based data integration platform provider Fivetran to help joint enterprise customers bring their data stored in multiple locations to the former’s data analytics platform, VantageCloud, to centralize data and metadata for analytics and AI use cases.
Customers will be able to automatically move their data into VantageCloud using the Teradata destination connector, without having to manage pipelines or additional infrastructure. The connector was developed and is maintained by Teradata, and runs on Fivetran’s fully managed infrastructure, the companies said. The connector’s ability to move, integrate, and harmonize data in VantageCloud automatically could be a major advantage for enterprises, as it solves two of their major challenges: eliminating extract, transform, load (ETL) processes, and providing real-time data synchronization for faster decision making, said Devin Pratt, research director at IDC. “This automation will let enterprises onboard and synchronize data from multiple sources, including streaming sources, in minutes, without custom coding or any ongoing upkeep, resulting in the reduction of infrastructure and maintenance costs while accelerating real-time analytics, machine learning, and AI use cases,” Pratt said. The connector, according to Teradata, can access over 700 data sources, including SaaS applications like Salesforce; databases like MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Oracle; ERP systems like SAP and NetSuite; event streams such as Apache Kafka; and multiple file types including JSON and CSV. This is Teradata’s first partnership to eliminate the need to manage ETL pipelines for a huge number of data sources, although it had earlier partnered with the likes of Telefónica Tech, UiPath, and dotData for their capabilities in embedding analytics, automating workflows, and integrating AutoML. It also offers batch-oriented ingestion tools such as QueryGrid and Parallel Transporter along with its native VantageCloud connectors. This is also not Fivetran’s first partnership with an analytics platform provider. Last year, the company partnered with Snowflake to add support for Apache Iceberg tables to deliver native connectors that run inside Snowflake via Snowpark Container Services. “This Snowflake partnership meant that users could spin up fully automated lakehouse architectures on the Snowflake AI Data Cloud without stitching together separate tools,” Pratt said. Additionally, Fivetran has a existing partnership with Databricks that allows it to hook its connector into Unity Catalog, enabling enterprise users to pull every schema and table from their Databricks catalog into their desired analytics environment. Teradata, too, last year added support for Apache Iceberg, as well as for Linux Foundation’s Delta Lake, in VantageCloud. The new Teradata destination connector is expected to be available in June for joint customers.
