What is October Prime Day?

Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days — or October Prime Day, as we’re calling it — is the retailer’s second shopping event of the year. While July Prime Day has been around since 2015, October Prime Day is only in its third year, having started in 2022. Much like the summer event, this upcoming sale is, for the most part, only for Amazon Prime subscribers.

The sale event will take place in 18 other countries besides the United States, namely Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, and the United Kingdom.

When is October Prime Day 2024?

October Prime Day starts now and runs for 48 hours between October 8 and 9, 2024. Check PCWorld’s dedicated Prime Day deals hub for all the best Prime Day deals.

Much like the summer event, this one falls on a Tuesday and Wednesday. (That was October 10 and 11 back in 2023 and October 11 and 12 back in 2022.) That’s pretty much what we expected, given Amazon’s penchant for sticking to the same calendar pattern every year.

Do I need to be an Amazon Prime member to shop the deals?

As the name suggests, Prime Day is an event dedicated to Prime members. The monthly subscription costs $14.99 per month, or you can pay $139 for the whole year. If you haven’t been a Prime member before, you can sign up for a 30-day free trial to score the Prime Day deals.

College students and younger folks between the ages of 18 and 24 can get away with an even cheaper Prime subscription via the Prime for Young Adults plan. This one comes with a six-month trial and then a monthly rate of $7.49 (or $69 per year).

This subscription comes with loads of perks, including free speedy delivery, access to Prime Video and Prime Music, lots of ebooks and podcasts and PC games, and much more.

However, keep in mind that some Prime Day discounts aren’t necessarily marked as such and are available to all buyers. The deals that are only for Prime members — which is most of them — are marked accordingly.

How to find the best Prime Day deals?

Finding the coolest Prime Day deals is super easy — just check in with us here at PCWorld. We also suggest following us on social media because we’re sharing our favorite discounts there.

What types of products are expected to go on sale for Prime Day?

First of all, we expect to see loads of Amazon’s own products available for sale. That includes Kindle tablets, Echo devices, Ring and Blink security cameras, Fire TVs and Fire TV Sticks, those nifty Fire tablets, and more. We’re expecting to see great prices for all of these. (Older products will likely get new best prices during the Prime Day event, so we’ll be keeping a special eye out for those.)

Second of all, other brands are certainly going to join in on the fun: Samsung, Apple, Dell, Lenovo, and many others. We expect to see great deals on massive monitors, large TVs, speedy laptops, headphones, smartwatches, phones, cameras, keyboards, storage devices, and more.

Of course, Prime Day deals aren’t exclusive to tech, but that’s what we’re going to be focusing on here at PCWorld.

Do other retailers run sales during Prime Day?

Like with any sales event, there’s nothing stopping other retailers — like Best Buy, Walmart, Target, and so on — from running their own deals during Amazon’s October Prime Day. So yes, you could find similar prices elsewhere without even having to pay for a Prime subscription.
