Four eVTOL Models at 2025 World Expo in Osaka
Friday February 24, 2023. 01:22 AM , from Akihabara News
Akihabara News (Tokyo) — The organizers of the 2025 World Expo in Osaka have selected four eVTOL models which will offer air taxi services and launch the industry in Japan. Only one of the models is Japanese, while the other three are being developed in Western nations.
The Japanese model is, of course, the SkyDrive SD-05, which has become something like Japan’s champion in the global race for urban air mobility. Joby Aviation is a California-based firm, though with strong financial links with Toyota. ANA Holdings will be the operator for the Joby aircraft during the Expo. The United Kingdom will be represented by Vertical Aerospace and its VX4 aircraft. Japan Airlines will be flying this model. Finally, the German firm Volocopter will have its VoloCity eVTOL transporting passengers through the skies, operated by its Japanese partner, Marubeni Corporation. The air taxi services at the event will run between the Smart Mobility Expo on Yumeshima island and a number of locations within central Osaka and perhaps elsewhere.
