Bandai Namco Invest US$130 Million on Metaverse

Monday February 14, 2022. 03:02 AM , from Akihabara News
Akihabara News (Tokyo) — Tokyo-based video game company Bandai Namco has unveiled plans to invest millions in constructing its own metaverse.

Bandai Namco is known for popular titles within franchises such as Tekken, Pac-Man, Gundam, Naruto, Dragon Ball, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, and more.

Meanwhile, the metaverse is gaining attention as a new way to connect people via virtual reality within a network of 3D virtual worlds, allowing users to create and alter the communities in which they choose to participate.

In response to this broadening opportunity, Bandai Namco has announced its intention to create a metaverse utilizing the firm’s own intellectual properties. The project is expected to cost around ¥15 billion (US$130 million) to develop over the course of the next three years.

Details of how the Bandai Namco metaverse will be structured and which of its many franchises will be included has yet to be revealed, but announcements are likely to come out in drips and drabs over the coming years.
