BOXY: The Revolution Of Room Acoustics

Tuesday January 26, 2021. 02:12 PM , from Gearslutz
It’s a mercy for any studio owner: instead of taking the risk of heavy losses with the conversion or removal of a studio and eventually letting your investment turn into nothing more than hazardous waste, the new BOXY system can be modified, sold or removed without any hazzle. Sounds revolutionary? Well – that’s what it is...

The construction of an acoustic studio is always a pretty complex endeavor. Room acoustics, sound insulation and not least the ambience of the new recording or mix temple are to be well thought out. For the builder/owner of a studio, there are quite a lot of important questions that arise: will the sound turn out to be exactly the way it was planned? Who guarantees the desired acoustic properties? What if the room acoustics need to be altered in the future? And what will happen in case the studio needs to be removed from the leased industrial floor one day?

The internationally successful manufacturer BOXY breaks away from many traditional room acoustics concepts and simply eliminates substantial problems that have gone along with studio construction so far.

A BOXY studio can be altered, modified, moved and reutilized – any time.

The system starts at the point where sound cabins and dry wall construction have reached their limits for ages. With respect to sound cabins, the weak points are comfort, hygiene, room acoustics, construction size, sound insulation as well as aesthetics. Dry construction often reveals cost-intensive problems as far as construction periods, planning security and modifiability are concerned. The same is valid in case the created structures, for whatever reason, possibly need to be disintegrated later on.

There is an important difference to our competitors: only BOXY guarantees sound insulation values and reverberation time prior to the start of the construction. For any musician, the studio might well be the most important place in life. It’s there where they spend many hours day in, day out. The BOXY specialists are capable of giving a studio the sound that precisely complies with a customer’s individual wishes.

One of the absolute BOXY system highlights is its ventilation: very efficient and, at the same time, extremely silent. On the one hand, the system allows for an air exchange of the entire spatial volume up to twelve times an hour. On the other hand, the system can attain noise values below NC15.

The BOXY system optimizes acoustic construction in a truly impressive way. The pure mounting times for turnkey rooms vary from two to three days for sizes up to 20 m2 and not more than ten days for more complex objects.

BOXY also allows for concepts of external acoustic planners to be integrated. If required, BOXY can also bring in internationally renowned acoustic & studio plandesigners with whom the team has already worked very successfully on other developments.

Whenever the highest thinkable profiles of requirements are to be met, e.g. with sound or mastering studios, we will provide the most professional solutions developed with the most acknowledged specialists.

Dario Paini, an acoustic room and studio designer with an excellent reputation far beyond Italy’s borders, assumes responsibility for the new studios of Eros Ramazotti, Jovanotti or Pinaxa (Gianna Nannini, Adriano Celentano, Tiziano Ferro).

In the German-speaking area, we are happy to refer to the expertise and the support of the renowned acoustic designer Karlheinz Stegmaier. Among others, Mr. Stegmaier did the planning for the RTL capital city TV studios, for Rotor Films as well as for Arena Synchron.

A complete turnkey sound cabin of 12 m2 base area - e.g. as a recording or mastering studio including soundproof door, electrical and acoustic interior design and mounting – is available from € 30000. Since more complex projects with a capacity of e.g. 100 persons demand for a significantly more detailed planning with respect to air flow, security regulations and the like (not to forget potential volume discounts), we make them subject to individual calculation and pricing procedures.

The modular BOXY system is suitable for a wide range of sizes and applications and is always changeable & relocatable | We were able to install one of our smallest installations in Berlin for Deutsche Welle, one of the largest in Manchester for the Royal Northern College of Music.

Acoustically controlled BOXY rooms become virus-free areas

BOXY equips ventilation systems with germicidal UV-C modules

Air conditioning and ventilation devices are the perfect microcosm for the dissemination of microbial organisms, pathogenic agents, spores and moulds. Especially in times like these, it is of utmost importance to avoid respectively cauterize germs as efficiently as possible. Correctly applied, UV-C rays provide a disinfection degree that is close to sterility.

UV light has been proven an effective solution against a multitude of viruses. According to an article published in the Journal of Virological Methods, SARS, caused by the corona virus (SARS-CoV), is eliminated by being exposed to UV light. Moreover, it was found that UV treatment also kills MERS/MERS-CoV, a type of the corona virus that had emerged in 2012. In a study published in the National Library of Medicine of the US National Institutes of Health, UV-C light deactivated MERS-CoV within 5 to 10 minutes after the exposure.

As far as the recent outbreak of Covid-19 is concerned, the effectiveness of UV light in terms of eliminating the virus has been confirmed by Juan Leon, an environmental health scientist at Emory University as well as Dr. Lena Ciric, an associate professor at London University College. A UV-C treatment had already turned out to be an effective method with fighting earlier strains of the above mentioned SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV. The UV-C modules installed by BOXY into their ventilation systems with immediate effect are certified to several standards (UL, ISO etc.) and have been undergoing multiple air treatment tests at Siena University. The application of UV-C light as part of the ventilation system in all BOXY acoustic rooms are an important measure with a sustainable effect for a healthy and carefree work environment.
