METAlliance Announces Workshop Roster

The METAlliance returns to L.A. in March with its “In Session with The Guys” Series.Los Angeles, CA (January 13, 2018)—A month ahead of its 'In Session with The Guys' program at Capitol Studios in Hollywood, CA, on March 10-11, the METAlliance (Music Engineering and Technical Alliance) has announced its artist roster.The exclusive workshop follows on the heels of a sold-out weekend at Avatar studios in New York City after AES 2017. By special arrangement, The METAlliance is taking over the historic Capitol Studios for the entire weekend, during which attendees will participate and interact with the METAlliance founders in live recording and mixing sessions. The METAlliance was founded by Chuck Ainlay, Ed Cherney, Frank Filipetti, George Massenburg, Elliot Scheiner, Al Schmitt, and the late Phil Ramone.A look back at the NYC Session with the GuysThe session program includes Ed Cherney tracking José James live; Al Schmitt tracking the Tierney Sutton Band; Chuck Ainlay and Elliot Scheiner mixing; and an 'in-the-box' home studio set up, critical listening and mixing with Frank Filipetti and George Massenburg.Blue Note recording artist José James and producer Don Was will be in session with Ed Cherney. Often referred to as a jazz singer for the hip-hop generation, New York City-based vocalist James combines jazz, soul, drum'n'bass, and spoken word into his own unique brand of vocal jazz. 'We'll be working on tracks for José's new Blue Note album for the entire weekend,' said Cherney. 'And we've got a great band lined up, too.'For over 20 years, jazz singer and eight-time Grammy nominee Tierney Sutton has fronted the Tierney Sutton Band, featuring pianist Christian Jacob, bassists Trey Henry and Kevin Axt and drummer Ray Brinker. They tour throughout the world and have headlined at Carnegie Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, and Jazz at Lincoln Center.Previous METAlliance Academy events in Hollywood and New York City were intense weekends covering every aspect of recording from mic technique and recording basic tracks to critical listening and advanced mixing. 'These are real sessions and we are making real records,' commented Schmitt.
