Standard Audio: RCA BK-5 Mic Mount
Saturday February 3, 2018. 01:32 AM , from Gearslutz
We have designed a new mic mount for the classic RCA BK-5 ribbon microphone. For those not familiar with this mic, it was a cardioid ribbon mic made in the 50-60s and designed specifically to handle high SPL sources such as gun shots.
They are amazing sounding mics, yet the original mic mount left a lot to be desired. Most of original mounts have obscure pipe threads and even if you're lucky enough to find a rare adapter, the mount doesn't allow for full rotation of the mic, making certain micing positions/angles difficult.
Our mount solves both these issues. It has the standard US 5/8"-27 mic stand thread and allows for full 360 degree rotation of the mic.
The mount is made out of anodized, lightweight machined aluminum and in addition to having modern threads for mounting to a mic stand, it also has a pair of XLR access holes for cable management.
We have fabricated a small introductory run of these mounts mainly because we needed one(!) but also to gauge interest for this accessory.
Exact pricing is still TBD, but will be competitive with other universal mounts that could be potentially be used with the BK-5.
